The heat was on at this year’s Foodservice Australia Expo, where Wood’s Condiments proudly supported the 2025 Best Burger Awards as official condiment sponsor. Held at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre during Melbourne’s Food and Hospitality Week, and judged by industry leaders including Matt Wilkinson and Gary Johnson, the live cook-off brought together some of Australia’s most talented burger creators for a high-stakes showdown packed with creativity, flavour, and energy.
After two intense rounds of competition, the standout performances were recognised across three major awards. The National Burger Winner title went to Jonathon Donovan of CBCo Brewing, whose expertly crafted burger wowed the judges and took out the top honour.
In an exciting and well-deserved twist, the Best Signature Burger award was shared between Ben Niumata from Grubbies Burgers & Hawaiian BBQ and Stuart Walsh from The Shearing Shed – Phillip Island. Both chefs presented unique, memorable burgers that left a lasting impression.
The Best Technical Burger title was awarded to Matt McKee of Hashtag Burgers and Waffles, recognised for his refined execution and inventive approach in the kitchen.
From the first flip to the final bite, the competition was a celebration of the skill and creativity driving Australia’s burger scene. It was an honour for Wood’s to support these talented chefs with a curated selection of nine condiments—spanning sauces, chutneys, pickles, relishes, and more—that helped bring their burgers to life on stage.
To all the participants, finalists, and judges – congratulations. The bar has officially been raised for next year.
